Kiba and his dog Akamaru confront Sakon, who hosts her brother inside her. The battle is uneven, however, as Kiba is outclassed, and Akamaru is severely injured attempting to save Kiba. With no other option, Kiba takes Akamaru and retreats down the river.

Naruto catches up with Kimimaro, who reveals Orichimaru's plan to achieve immortality by implanting his soul in Sasuke's body after destroying the boy's own soul.
