Feeling ignored following the events of Bleach, Vol. 3, Kon decides to leave Ichigo and find his own way in the world, hoping, as a cute teddy bear, to be adopted by a gorgeous girl that will take baths with him. Unfortunately, his plan doesn't work out, and he eventually returns home, where Ichigo had not noticed he was gone.
Meanwhile, a reality show featuring a spiritualist named Don Kannonji is reaching the top of the charts. Popular throughout the country, but especially with teenage girls. On the television show Don Kannonji seems to be pulling all of the stops, and people are eating it up. Even Ichigo's dad and younger sister are enamored with the spiritualist. Ichigo, who really can see ghosts, finds the whole idea stupid.
Then the sho travels to their hometown, where Don Kannonji will exorcise an old hospital. Despite his misgivings, Ichigo attends the live taping of the show, only to see that Rukia and his friends are all here. Ichigo discovers that Don Kannonji can also see ghosts, but unlike him, the star doesn't know how to deal with them, and instead of helping them along he turns them into Hollows!
Unleashing himself from his body, Ichigo engages the hollow, joined by Don Kannonji who cannot be seen backing away by his fans. Kisuke, the vendor who sold Rukia the malfunctioning soul Kon, is also in attendance, and he seems to be up to no good.
Fortunately, Ichigo and Don Kannonji defeat the Hollow. But then he meets Uryu, a Quincy who hates Soul Reapers ...
The story continues in Bleach, Vol. 5.
