Monster

Myes, Walter Dean. Monster. 2004. 281p. ISBN 9780064407311. Available at FIC MYE on the library shelves.

Steve Harmon hails from the streets of Harlem, but he currently resides in a juvenile detention facility, where he awaits his trial for murder. Life can be a slippery slope, and each bad decision Steve made took him led him to be a lookout for a robbery gone wrong.

Now that he’s facing life in prison without the possibility of parole, Steve must participate in his defense. To pass the time and to stop himself from going insane with the activities both in the courtroom and in prison, Steve think of his situation as a movie, and narrates it as such.

With the prosecutor calling him a monster, Steve is in the fight of his life. Will his past mistakes cost him everything?
