Blade: Playing Dead

Bowler, Time. Blade: Playing Dead. Book 1 of the Blade series. 2009. 240p. ISBN 0399251863. FIC BOW on the library shelves.

Blade is running from his past. A renowned “artist” with the sharp side of a knife, Blade has escaped those who would use his “services” for evil deeds. He lies low, remaining invisible to all, living alone in the gritty city he now calls home.

When he meets Becky and her daughter Jaz, everything changes. Now Blade must protect them as well as himself, and for someone who spent so much time running, this may prove to be difficult. Blade rarely has a moment to think, let alone plan ahead. He’s reacting, trying to stay one step ahead of those who hunt him, or Becky, down. Playing dead is no longer an option for him. But who is Blade really fighting for? Himself, or Becky and Jaz?

Blade talks directly to the reader, and the pace is non-stop. Blade has a strong moral compass, and abandoning Becky and Jaz goes against his code of honor. So he must protect them at all costs. Full of twists and turns, Blade’s adage, “Trust no one,” proves to be correct. Don’t believe everything he tells you!

This is book 1 in the Blade series, and continues in Blade: Out of the Shadows.
