Every school should be a welcoming place that is accessible to all students, inclusive of all backgrounds and abilities, able to meet all needs, and provide a place where students and staff are safe. While adults often come up with solutions to perceived problems, students are the one who live in school every day and who can provide the impetus to make significant improvements.

Designing Positive School Communities outlines a framework to effect positive changes in schools. Three major situations that occur in schools, from inclusivity to bullying to learning needs, are presented, and outline the steps students in those schools took to change these situations and help other students achieve a better environment. Every step of the process of design thinking is introduced, and each situation is walked through the process, so that the reader can see how design thinking applied.

This book thus provides a framework for students to walk through and device solutions to problems in their schools.
